Kia India is set to expand its electric vehicle lineup with the launch of the Carens Clavis EV on July 15, 2025, dealer sources confirmed to Acko Drive. The upcoming launch follows the brand’s continued sales momentum, with domestic volume reaching 22,315 units in May 2025, marking a 14.43% year-on-year increase and its fifth consecutive month of growth. The Clavis EV will be the battery-electric version of the recently unveiled Carens Clavis, a more premium iteration of the popular Carens MPV.

While the Carens Clavis EV will share its core design and platform with the internal combustion variant, it will feature subtle styling updates to distinguish it as an electric model. These include a reworked front fascia, reshaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs), and new alloy wheel designs. Despite the cosmetic tweaks, the overall profile and dimensions are expected to remain largely unchanged.
Inside, the EV version will carry over the dashboard layout, centre console, touchscreen system, and steering wheel from the ICE Clavis. However, surface finishes and trim materials may be refreshed to reflect the EV’s premium positioning. One of the key USPs of the Clavis EV will be its spacious and versatile cabin, including a three-row seating configuration.
Underpinning the Carens Clavis EV is expected to be the same electric platform and powertrain setup used in the Hyundai Creta Electric, which was launched earlier this year. The Creta EV offers two battery options — a 42 kWh pack with an estimated range of 390 km, and a larger 51.4 kWh unit with a claimed range of 473 km.

Given the Carens Clavis EV’s larger size and likely heavier kerb weight, its real-world range may be slightly reduced, with expectations hovering around 450 km on a full charge for the top-spec variant. Charging capabilities, motor specifications, and battery management systems are likely to be carried over or adapted from the Creta Electric.
With no direct rivals in the mass-market electric MPV segment at present, the Kia Carens Clavis EV appears well-positioned to create a niche of its own. The segment is currently underserved in India’s EV market, which has largely focused on hatchbacks, SUVs, and entry-level sedans.

Kia is also planning to launch the all-electric Syros subcompact SUV next year, which is expected to compete directly with the Tata Punch EV. The company already offers the premium EV6 and EV9 electric models in India, both of which cater to the upper end of the EV market.
