Kia Carens Clavis EV vs Hyundai Creta Electric: Specifications, Prices Compared

Kia India has just launched the Carens Clavis EV in India at ₹17.99 lakh for the base-spec HTK+ Standard Range (SR), going up to ₹24.49 lakh for the top-spec HTX+ Long Range (LR) (both, ex-showroom, India). The Clavis EV shares a lot of its mechanical components with the Hyundai Creta Electric, which is priced between ₹17.99 - 23.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The starting price of both the EVs is the same, but at the top-end, the Clavis EV is ₹1 lakh dearer than the Creta Electric. 

The SR variants come with a 42 kWh battery pack, the same as the Creta Electric. While the Clavis EV’s SR models have a claimed range of 404 km, the Creta Electric’s same battery pack comes with a claimed range of 390 km. The LR variants of both cars come with a 51.4 kWh battery pack. The Clavis EV has a claimed range of 490 km, while the Creta Electric comes with a range of 473 km. Both fall in different segments – the Clavis EV is an MPV, and the Creta Electric is an SUV. The Clavis EV has better range because Kia India claims the Clavis EV has better aerodynamics than the Creta Electric. 

The Creta Electric has more variants on offer with the smaller battery pack. It gets the Executive, Smart, Smart (O) and Premium variants, while the Clavis EV only has two – HTK+ and HTX. The Creta Electric Executive variant is priced at ₹17.99 lakh, the same as the Clavis EV HTK+ SR variant. The Creta Electric Premium variant is priced at ₹20 lakh, while the ₹20.49 lakh, ₹49,000 more expensive than the Creta Electric. 

The base-spec variants of both cars are similarly specced, too. However, the Clavis EV gets bigger screens – two 12.3-inch ones instead of the two 10.25-inch ones on the Creta Electric. But the Clavis EV also gets a third screen to control the AC and music. Both also get wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. On the other hand, the Creta electric also has dual-zone climate control as standard across the variant lineup.

The LR variants of both cars only have two variants. The Clavis EV’s HTX LR and HTX+ LR variants are priced at ₹22.49 lakh and ₹24.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India). On the other hand, the Creta Electric’s Smart (O) LR is priced at ₹21.50 lakh, and the Excellence LR is priced at ₹23.50 lakh. The Clavis EV’s LR variants are ₹1 lakh dearer than the Creta Electric’s LR variants. 

The top-spec variants are quite similarly specced. Both get vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality inside and outside the car, a panoramic sunroof, Bose-tuned audio system, ADAS, ventilated front seats, auto-wipers and more. 

Both electric vehicles support fast charging, too. The Creta Electric comes with 50 kW DC support that helps charge the battery from 10-80 per cent in 58 minutes. On the other hand, the Clavis EV supports 100 kW DC charging, allowing the battery to be charged from 10-80 per cent in 59 minutes. 

Despite sharing the platform, powertrains and batteries, the two cars are quite different. The Creta Electric is aimed at small families and young customers, while the Clavis EV is aimed more at larger families, even if the customers may not be very old. The Creta Electric comes with only a 5-seat configuration, while the Clavis EV comes with only a 7-seat configuration.
