Kia entered the Indian market in 2017
Kia first announced its entry into the Indian market in 2017, but it was not until 2019, that the company kick started sales with the Seltos compact SUV. And in these 4 years of operations, it has already grabbed 7 per cent of market share. Over the years the company has launched cars in competitive segments and done well. The Seltos compact SUV in these 4 years has sold more than 5 lakh units. In fact, the Sonet and the Carens too have been strong sellers in their respective segments.
The new @KiaInd #Seltos has been unveiled. But there is no price announced and that's a big bummer because given what all it has to offer, that's going to be steep. But we know what all features it has to offer and the variants too. So read on to know more! #BadassReborn… pic.twitter.com/gbdGompQoo

But the company is now aiming to push that market share to 10 per cent. Speaking at the unveil of the Seltos facelift, Tae-Jin Park, CEO, Kia India, said, "We have a seen a strong growth in the Indian market over the past 4 years and and we already have 7 per cent market share. Now it's time to accelerate and innovate with newer products and targeting newer segments. Our goal is to achieve 10 per cent market share in the near future."
He went on to state that the company will launch an 'Indian-inspired' SUV in both the ICE and EV forms by 2025. Which segment it will target though, was not made clear. But given that the company has a target to achieve 10 per cent market share, this SUV will be launched in the mass market space. So could it be a micro SUV? or a 7-seater SUV? Well, those questions will be answered shortly.
We wait to see how Kia India's plans unfold.
