Kia is expected to price the Carens Clavis EV competitively to undercut or match its Chinese rival.
Kia has officially unveiled the Carens Clavis EV, marking its entry into the mass-market electric vehicle space in India. As previously reported exclusively by Acko Drive, the Carens Clavis EV is scheduled to launch on July 15. Now revealed in full, the electric version of the MPV comes with a claimed range of up to 490 km on a single charge. Once launched, the Carens Clavis EV would become the only all-electric Kia MPV in the country, positioned directly against the BYD eMax 7, which currently retails between ₹26.90 lakh and ₹29.90 lakh (ex-showroom).

Powertrain options for the Carens Clavis EV are expected to mirror those offered with the upcoming Hyundai Creta Electric, featuring two battery pack choices: a 42 kWh unit and a larger 51.4 kWh pack. Both are paired with a single electric motor mounted on the front axle. While Kia has not officially disclosed output or performance figures, the numbers are likely to be similar to the Creta EV. Given the Carens Clavis EV’s larger footprint and heavier kerb weight, its performance and efficiency may differ slightly from Hyundai's.
The company claims a maximum range of 490 km on a single charge, likely corresponding to the larger 51.4 kWh battery variant. This figure places the Clavis EV at the higher end of the segment in terms of driving range and is expected to be one of its key selling points.
Spy images and now official photos confirm that the Carens Clavis EV closely resembles its internal combustion engine (ICE) sibling in terms of exterior styling. It retains signature design elements like the LED ‘ice cube’ headlights integrated into the front bumper and a sleek LED light bar at the rear. However, to distinguish the EV variant, Kia has introduced subtle design changes such as reprofiled front and rear bumpers, redesigned alloy wheels with aero enhancements, and other EV-specific styling cues.
Under the skin, the Carens Clavis EV reportedly features a revised suspension setup compared to the ICE version. The changes are aimed at accommodating the heavier battery packs while maintaining comfort and handling balance, especially important in a three-row MPV.
Inside, the Carens Clavis EV carries over the layout from the ICE version with no major changes expected to the cabin design. The dashboard is expected to house a dual-screen setup—one 12.3-inch unit each for the infotainment system and the digital driver’s display. Dual-tone interiors, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and premium materials are likely to be standard in higher variants.
Feature highlights may include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Bose premium audio system, wireless charging, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, a cabin air purifier, and ambient lighting. The feature set suggests that Kia is positioning the Clavis EV as a well-rounded family car with an emphasis on comfort and technology.
On the safety front, the Carens Clavis EV is expected to be equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, traction control, vehicle stability management, and hill-start assist as standard. Additionally, Level 2 ADAS features may be offered on higher variants, which would include lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and autonomous emergency braking, among others.
