The feature promises to make finding destinations easier and more informative than ever.

Kia is taking in-car navigation to the next level by integrating Google Points of Interest (POIs) into its systems, starting with the all-new EV4 electric hatchback. The feature, which will roll out as a free over-the-air update this summer for other Kia models with connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), promises to make finding destinations easier and more informative than ever. We wait to know from Kia whether this feature will be available in India soon.

What Are Google POIs?

Google POIs are pins on a map that display real-time details about businesses, attractions, and services – from opening hours and parking availability to user reviews and photos. This means Kia drivers can now access the same wealth of information they’d find on Google Maps, but directly through their car’s built-in navigation.

Pablo Martinez Masip, Kia Europe’s Vice President of Product & Marketing, said, “This adds an exciting new level to navigation, helping drivers make informed decisions before and during their journeys.”

How Does It Help Drivers?

For consumers, the benefits are clear:

  • Real-time updates: No more outdated info—changes like new opening hours or parking availability are instantly reflected.
  • Comprehensive details: See ratings, menus, and even how busy a location is before arriving.
  • Seamless integration: No need to switch between phone and car screens, reducing distractions.

Who Else Uses This Tech?

Kia isn’t the first to leverage Google’s mapping tech. Volvo, Polestar, and Renault already use Google-built infotainment systems, while BMW and Ford have integrated Google POIs in some models. However, Kia’s move stands out because it’s bringing this feature to a broader range of vehicles, including more affordable models.

Why This Is a Smart Move for Kia

As electric vehicles (EVs) become mainstream, connectivity and convenience are key selling points. By offering Google POIs, Kia:

  • Enhances its tech appeal, competing with premium brands.
  • Boosts customer satisfaction with always-updated navigation.
  • Future-proofs its fleet as over-the-air updates keep systems fresh.

The Bottom Line

Kia’s integration of Google POIs is a win for drivers, making trips smoother and more informed. With rivals also adopting similar tech, the race is on to deliver the smartest, most user-friendly in-car systems – and Kia is firmly in the lead.
