KTM 390 Adventure X vs Royal Enfield Himalayan 450

KTM is issuing a recall for 2025–2026 390 Adventure, Enduro R, and SMC R motorcycles due to a potential issue where engine vibrations could cause the side stand spring to fracture.

KTM has initiated a proactive safety campaign for certain 2025-2026 390 series models, recommending replacement of the side stand spring at authorised dealers. The measure addresses a potential issue where engine vibrations may cause the spring to fracture on forged side stands.

Affected models include:

  • 390 Adventure R (MY 2025-2026)
  • 390 Adventure X (MY 2025-2026)
  • 390 Enduro R (MY 2025-2026)
  • 390 SMC R (MY 2025-2026)

The concern is limited to forged side stands; other types are not impacted. Although only isolated cases have been reported, KTM is taking precautionary action to maintain safety standards.

Owners are advised to visit an authorised dealer for free replacement of the spring and installation of a rubber protection. For safe travel to the workshop, KTM suggests temporarily securing the side stand with a rubber band or similar item.

On select vehicles, dealers will also install a new side stand sensor retaining plate to optimise switch trigger range. Customers will be informed if their motorcycle requires this additional update.

Affected owners will receive notification letters and can verify their vehicle on the "Service" section of ktm.com, which also lists authorised dealers.

It’s important to note that the India-spec versions of these motorcycles are not affected by this recall. The locally available 390 models feature a different side stand design, which was proactively updated to address the potential vibration-related fracture risk associated with the forged side stands used in international markets.
