LG Electronics held a press conference at IAA Mobility 2023, sharing its vision for the future of mobility experience and automotive technology. Speaking at the event, LG CEO William Cho announced the company's "Alpha-able" theme focused on using displays, AI, and other innovations to create adaptive and personalized cabins for autonomous vehicles.
As per LG's research, most people view their car as a private and relaxing personal space. To meet these needs, LG is developing three experience concept themes:
Transformable: LG's flexible/rollable OLED displays and home appliance expertise will allow vehicle interiors to dynamically change into different modes, like dining spaces, offices, or entertainment centres.
Explorable: AI and XR technologies will recommend personalized content and experiences tailored to the trip details. Augmented reality dashboards and windshields, courtesy of transparent OLED displays, will enhance the driving experience for passengers.
Relaxable: LG's stronghold in home appliances and digital health sectors will become a foundation for relaxing experiences like massages, purified air, and counselling powered by LG products and services.
LG also highlighted three key business areas powering its mobility vision - infotainment systems and vehicle telematics developed by VS Company, EV powertrains through its LG Magna joint venture, and lighting systems via subsidiary ZKW Group.
It also announced plans for a new LG Magna plant in Hungary to boost European EV production. Additionally, LG discussed expanding into EV charging through its HiEV Charger acquisition from last year.
