Following the Eletre, Lotus has planned two more cars for India.
Lotus has made a grand entry in India with its Eletre EV SUV, which is priced between ₹2.55 crore and ₹2.99 crore. During the launch event, Lotus also mentioned that it is working on launching its second model in India, the Emira. Furthermore, Lotus India’s website also mentions that the Emeya is also due to be launched in India. Both the Emira and Emeya are scheduled to launch sometime in 2024.
The Emira is the last pure internal combustion engine sports car by Lotus and is offered with two engine options. The first of the two engines available is a 361 bhp, 430Nm 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine from Mercedes-AMG mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It also gets a 3.5-litre, V6 petrol engine sourced from Toyota producing 400 bhp and 420 Nm (430 Nm with auto gearbox) that is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Being a successor to the Elise, Exige and Evora, the Emira is a two-seater, mid-engined sports car that Lotus says has been designed ‘for the drivers’. It looks fairly exotic with its chiselled looks, gaping intakes on the fascia and vertical, wraparound LED headlights. In profile, the Emira has a huge air intake feeding air to the mid-mounted engine and gets 20-inch wheels as standard. At the back, it gets C-shaped LED taillights and the number plate housing in the large diffuser is flanked by two round exhaust pipes. The Emira’s design takes heavy inspiration from Lotus’ flagship hypercar, the Evija EV. Lotus hasn’t given a specific timeline for the Emira’s launch in India, however, we expect it to come before the second half of 2024.
Inside, the Emira has a driver-focused cabin with a high-mounted gear selector in the centre console and most of the controls facing the driver. It gets a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
The second car that Lotus has planned for India is the Emeya electric sedan, which it calls a hyper GT (grand tourer). While its production will commence in 2024, we expect the Emeya to launch in India towards the end of 2024. It is powered by two permanent magnet synchronous motors – one on each axle. The front motor is paired with a single-speed gearbox, while the rear motor comes with a two-speed gearbox. Combined, the two motors produce up to 905 bhp and up to 985Nm of torque. Lotus claims the Emeya can do a 0-100 kmph sprint in 2.78 seconds and has a top speed of 256 kmph.
The Emeya has a 102 kWh battery and Lotus claims it will have a similar range as the Eletre, up to 600 km on a full charge. Lotus also claims that with a 350 kW DC fast charger, the Emeya can add a range of up to 150 km in around five minutes. Along with the range, the Emeya also shares its design with the Eletre SUV, with a cab-forward design. More details about the Emeya should be revealed in the coming weeks, as the car enters production.
