However, the Swift managed a 3-star and a 4-star rating in Euro and Japan NCAP, respectively.
The Made-in-India Suzuki Swift has a shocking 1-star rating in the latest round of crash tests by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). For perspective, the Swift scored a 3-star rating at Euro NCAP and a 4-star rating at Japan NCAP. The Swift is yet to be tested by Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP. Interestingly, the new Dzire got a 5-star rating at Global NCAP and it is based on the same platform as Swift. Acko Drive has reached out to Maruti Suzuki and we will update the story once we receive a response.
In the adult occupant protection tests, the Suzuki Swift 18.88 points out of 40 with a 47 per cent rating. In the frontal offset test, the Swift scored 2.56 points out of 8. When tested for the oblique pole test, the Swift managed to secure all 6 points available. In the whiplash protection, side impact and rescue & extrication tests, the Suzuki hatchback managed to secure 3.97 points out of 4, 5.51 points out of 6 and 0.83 points out of 4, respectively. Unfortunately, the Swift managed to secure no points in the full width frontal and far side impact tests.
ANCAP said the “protection of the chest was weak for the driver. Structures in the dashboard were a potential source of injury for the driver and front passenger, and protection of the upper legs was rated marginal.”
In the child occupant protection tests, the Suzuki hatchback managed to secure 29.24 points out of 49, with a 59 per cent rating. In the front and side dynamic tests, the Swift scored 5.47 points out of 16 and 5.54 points out of 8, respectively. In the restraint installation tests, the Swift managed a decent 11.22 points out of 12 and got 7 points out of 13 in the on-board safety features.
With 48.40 points out of 63 and a 78 per cent rating, the Swift scored well in the Vulnerable Road User Protection tests. As per ANCAP, the Swift scored 12.63 points out of 18 in the head protection test (adult, child & cyclist), 9 points out of 9 in the knee & tibia protection test, 4.5 points out of 4.5 in the pelvis protection test and 4.53 points out of 4.5 in the femur protection test. In the autonomous emergency braking (AEB) tests for cyclists and motorcycles, the Swift secured 7.77 points out of 9 and 3.33 out of 6, respectively. Furthermore, in the AEB pedestrian (forward) test, it got 5.64 points but the AEB pedestrian (backover) test was not conducted since it isn’t available on any variant. The Swift scored 2 points out of 3 in the lane support system (LSS) tests for motorcycles.
When it comes to Safety Assist tests, the Swift scored 9.78 points out of 18 with a 54 per cent rating. It scored very poorly in the seat belt reminder and driver monitoring tests with zero points in both. Even in the speed assistance systems test, it got just 0.83 points out of 3. In the AEB tests (Car-to-Car and Junction & Crossing), the Swift scored well with 3.5 points and 2.96 points out of 4, respectively, but no AEB (Head-on) test was conducted. In the LSS test, it scored 2.50 points out of 3. Furthermore, ANCAP requires ADAS to be standard on all cars it tests and the Swift comes with features like Dual Sensor Brake Support, Traffic Sign Recognition, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Prevention, Adaptive Cruise Control and High Beam Assist, as well as six airbags.
ANCAP tested the Suzuki Swift GL and GL+ hybrid variants but said the rating applies to all variants sold in Australia and New Zealand. The Swift was introduced in Australia in June 2024, while it came to New Zealand in May 2024. Interestingly, ANCAP also considered tests conducted by Euro NCAP when rating the Swift sold in Australia and New Zealand.
