The XEV 9e is the highest-scoring vehicle at BNCAP, closely followed by the BE 6.

Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) has crash-tested Mahindra’s latest electric vehicles (EVs) - the XEV 9e and BE 6. Both the EVs have received 5-star safety ratings for adult and child occupant protection at BNCAP. India’s crash testing authority has tested the top-spec Three B79 variants of the XEV 9e and BE but said the ratings apply to all the variants of the two electric SUVs.

The XEV 9e got 32 out of 32 points in the adult occupant protection tests.

While the XEV 9e received 32 points, the BE 6 got 31.97 out of 32 points in the adult occupant protection tests. Both the EVs got 45 out of 49 points in the child occupant protection tests. The XEV 9e is the highest-scoring vehicle at BNCAP, closely followed by the BE 6. Earlier, the top spot was held by the Tata Punch.ev, which scored 31.46 points out of 32 and 45 out of 49 points in the adult and child occupant protection tests, respectively.

The BE 6 lost a few points due to "adequate" protection to the driver's right tibia.

In the adult occupant protection tests, the XEV 9e got full marks in the frontal offset deformable barrier and side movable deformable barrier tests, scoring 16 out of 16 points in both tests. On the other hand, the BE 6 got 15.97 points out of 16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and full points in the side movable deformable barrier test. Both electric SUVs received an “OK” rating in the side pole impact test. The reason BE 6 lost the 0.03 points is because BNCAP noted “Adequate” protection in the right tibia of the driver. Otherwise, all other regions got “Good” protection.

XEV 9e and BE 6 got full points in child occupant protection tests.

Moving to child occupant protection tests, both the XEV 9e and BE 6 got full marks in the Dynamic and Child Restraint System (CRS) installation tests, scoring 24 and 12 points, respectively. In the vehicle assessment scores, both scored 9 out of 13 points. As always, BNCAP tested the XEV 9e and BE 6 with the dummies of 18-month-old and 3-year-old children.
