Aptiv, an industrial and automotive technology solutions provider, has announced that it will supply an advanced and localised ADAS platform to one of India’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers. Without naming its client, Aptiv says the deal covers 14 future bus and truck models, with over 30 variants. The undisclosed company, which is also referred to as a "top global commercial vehicle OEM", will use Aptiv’s 6th-gen ADAS solutions along with radar and smart camera hardware.

In its announcement, Aptiv says its platform can scale across multiple vehicle types and drivertrains. The company also says its offerings are reliable in harsh environments, and have been validated to handle the challenges of commercial vehicles including large blind spots, heavy-duty driving cycles, long operating hours, exposure to vibrations, and challenging road conditions.

This is Aptiv’s first such deal with an Indian commercial vehicle maker. It promises industry-leading performance along with reduced system complexity. Over-the-air updates are supported, allowing new features and capabilities to be added after vehicles have shipped.

The company also adds that its AI-based vision technology has been optimised for Indian road conditions, including detection of three-wheelers, large animals, and vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, road workers, and cyclists.

Aptiv, which is headquartered in Switzerland, says it has made “significant investments” in developing local capabilities in India, including $60 million over the past three years. It opened its fourth Indian technical centre in Chennai in 2025, where engineers work on localisation for its offerings, with Mahindra SUVs as a major client. The company has also had a manufacturing facility at the same location since 2024. Its ADAS software is already in use on over 40 million vehicles around the world.

All new models of trucks and buses (including mini-buses and school buses) will need to have ADAS features such as automatic emergency braking (AEB), stability control, driver drowsiness detection, and lane departure alerts. There are staggered deadlines, with some features becoming required by January 1 2027, and others by October 1, 2027. Existing models will need to be updated to meet the same requirements, by October 1, 2027 and January 1, 2028, respectively. These guidelines were issued by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in late 2025, improving safety and bringing India more in line with some international markets, but likely resulting in increased costs for commercial vehicle owners and operators.
