Bharat NCAP had first crash tested the Baleno in its previous iteration with 2 airbags and again after 6 airbags were made standard.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is the second car from the Indian carmaker after the Dzire to be crash tested by the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP), scoring four stars in the crash test. BNCAP tested the Delta AGS and Alpha AGS variants but mentioned that the ratings apply to all variants of the Dzire. The Baleno received 4 stars for adult and 3 stars for child occupant protection tests. However, Bharat NCAP had first crash tested the Baleno in its previous iteration with 2 airbags and again after 6 airbags were made standard.

In the adult occupant protection tests, the Baleno scored 26.52 points out of 32, while in the child occupant protection tests, it secured 34.81 points out of a total of 49. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Baleno managed to secure 11.54 points out of 16. BNCAP noted ‘marginal’ to ‘adequate’ protection for both the front passengers respectively, however, the driver’s chest and left tibia got ‘marginal’ protection. In the side movable deformable barrier test, it scored 14.99 points out of 16. BNCAP noted ‘good’ protection for the head, stomach and pelvic regions, while the chest only got ‘adequate’ protection. In the side impact pole test, the Dzire received an 'OK' rating.
For the child occupant protection tests, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno got 34.81 points in the Dynamic and Child Restraint System (CRS) installation system, i.e., 16.81 out of 24 points and 12 out of 12 points, respectively. In the vehicle assessment test, the Dzire secured 6 points out of a total of 13. As always, BNCAP tested the Baleno with the dummies of 18-month-old and 3-year-old children.

The Baleno comes with a host of safety features. It has six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, three-point seatbelts with reminders for all seats and ISOFIX child seat mounts, among others.
