Maruti Suzuki announced the successful commissioning of the first phase of the Kharkhoda plant, which has an initial production capacity of 2.5 lakh units per year.
Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MSIL), the country’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer, has commenced production at its newest facility in Kharkhoda, Haryana. This marks the company’s fourth manufacturing plant in India and is a key step in its long-term strategy to expand its production capacity to four million units annually by 2030. In an exchange filing on Tuesday, Maruti Suzuki announced the successful commissioning of the first phase of the Kharkhoda plant, which has an initial production capacity of 2.5 lakh units per year. The facility in Sonipat district is expected to play a crucial role in meeting the growing demand for passenger vehicles in both domestic and international markets.
With the addition of the Kharkhoda facility, Maruti Suzuki now operates four major manufacturing plants across India. The company’s production network includes Gurugram, Manesar, and Gujarat facilities, each contributing significantly to its manufacturing capacity.
Established in 1983, the Gurugram plant was Maruti Suzuki’s first production facility in India. It has three assembly lines and a total production capacity of approximately 7 lakh units per annum. The plant manufactures some of the company’s most popular models, including the Alto, WagonR, S-Presso, and Ertiga.
The Manesar plant, operational since 2007, was set up to complement the Gurugram facility. With a production capacity of around 8.8 lakh units per year, it manufactures high-demand models such as the Swift, Dzire, Baleno, and Ciaz.
In 2017, Suzuki Motor Corporation established the Hansalpur plant in Gujarat. This plant is fully owned by Suzuki Motor Gujarat, a subsidiary of the Japanese parent company. It produces approximately 7.5 lakh units annually and serves as a key export hub for Maruti Suzuki models, including the Baleno, Swift, and Dzire.
Once fully developed, the newly commissioned Kharkhoda plant is expected to become one of Maruti Suzuki’s largest manufacturing sites. The first phase has begun with a capacity of 2.5 lakh units per year, and the company plans to expand it in multiple phases. The plant plays a vital role in Maruti Suzuki’s broader goal of increasing its total annual production capacity to four million units by the end of the decade.
