Maruti Suzuki has approved land acquisition at Gujarat’s Khoraj Industrial Estate to expand production capacity, reinforcing its long-term manufacturing expansion strategy to meet growing demand in the Indian automobile market.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited's Board has granted approval to acquire land for expansion of production capacity at Khoraj Industrial Estate from the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation. The land acquisition forms part of the company's expansion programme in the state and reflects its commitment to meet demand in the Indian automobile market.

The transaction, which involves the purchase of land at the Khoraj Industrial Estate, supports the company's strategy to increase manufacturing footprint across India. This move comes as Maruti Suzuki works to enhance its production capacity to support sales growth in the domestic market.

Maruti Suzuki has a record of land acquisitions for plant operations in India. The company established its first manufacturing facility in Gurgaon, Haryana, in 1982. The company later acquired land at Manesar in Haryana through three phases: the first phase occurred in 1994, with phases two and three completed in 2002. The Manesar facility was inaugurated in February 2007 and has since undergone capacity expansions.

In Gujarat, Maruti Suzuki acquired 700 acres at Hansalpur in Ahmedabad district in 2012 to establish a manufacturing plant. Following this acquisition, the company acquired an additional 500 acres in Mandal Taluk of Ahmedabad district in the same year to support production operations.

More recently, in May 2022, Maruti Suzuki completed land acquisition of 800 acres at Kharkhoda in Sonipat, Haryana, for a new manufacturing facility with an initial annual capacity of 250,000 units.
