Maruti Suzuki has entered into an agreement with the Rajasthan government to establish automated driving test facilities across 21 locations in the state as part of its corporate social responsibility programme.
The memorandum of agreement was signed on Saturday in the presence of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa. Secretary and Transport Commissioner Shuchi Tyagi signed on behalf of the state government, whilst Senior Vice President Tarun Agarwal represented Maruti Suzuki.
The automated driving test tracks will be established in 20 major cities including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Udaipur, Bikaner, Alwar, Bharatpur, Chittaurgarh, and others. These facilities will serve applicants seeking two-wheeler and light motor vehicle driving licences.
Each automated driving test track will feature high-definition cameras, RFID sensors, real-time analytics, and integrated IT systems. The technology aims to provide computerised, rule-based testing that complies with Central Motor Vehicle Rules whilst eliminating human bias and errors from the evaluation process.
Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa noted that the initiative aligns with the state's 10-year Road Safety Action Plan. He described the collaboration as making the driving licence testing process more comprehensive and transparent.
Maruti Suzuki's Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer for Corporate Affairs, emphasised the role of technology in ensuring fair and accurate testing. The company views driver competency as a critical factor in road safety and believes automated systems can better identify candidates with the requisite knowledge and skills.
The automated tracks represent an expansion of similar initiatives Maruti Suzuki has undertaken in other Indian states. The standardised testing approach is designed to improve the quality of licensed drivers whilst reducing inconsistencies in the evaluation process.
The Rajasthan project forms part of Maruti Suzuki's broader corporate social responsibility focus on road safety education and infrastructure development. The company has been working with various state governments to modernise driving test facilities and improve road safety standards across India.
