Maserati is all set to increase its product portfolio in India with the introduction of its smallest offering, the Grecale. The SUV will launch in India in early 2024, with its bookings set to commence by the end of 2023. Globally unveiled in March 2022, the Grecale is offered in three trims – GT, Modena and Trofeo – and it also comes as an EV called the Grecale Folgore, which will arrive later in 2024.
Cosmetically, the Grecale looks like a shrunken version of its larger sibling, the Levante. However, it has unique touches of its own such as a different grille, headlights, and a slightly different Maserati ‘trident’ logo on the C-pillar. It still has a similar silhouette as the Levante but is significantly smaller. At the back, the Grecale has slim taillamps connected by a chrome strip.
The Grecale’s interior is much different compared to the Levante. While both get a touchscreen infotainment system, the Levante has a smaller 8.4-inch touchscreen, while the Grecale has a larger, 12.3-inch touchscreen. The Grecale also gets a secondary 8.8-inch touchscreen that houses the HVAC control and has a minimalistic design. What’s common in all Maseratis is the placement of an analogue clock in the centre of the dashboard, much like Porsche with its SportChrono pack.
Under the hood, the Grecale gets a choice of two different engines. The GT and Modena variants get a 2.0-litre mild-hybrid, four-cylinder petrol engine producing 297 bhp in the former and 327 bhp in the latter. Both variants produce an identical 450 Nm of torque. The Trofeo variant gets a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine that churns out 515 bhp and 630 Nm.
The Folgore is an electric version of the Grecale and gets a dual-motor setup producing 545 bhp and 850 Nm. It comes equipped with a 105kWh battery that is good for over 500 km of range on a single charge (WLTP cycle). Maserati claims that with a rapid DC fast charging setup, the Folgore can be charged from 20-80 per cent in under 30 minutes.
