Maserati brings open-top opulence to Indian shores with two stunning convertibles — the supercar-grade MC20 Cielo and the elegant GranCabrio.
Even without an official launch announcement, Maserati has quietly revealed the Indian pricing for two of its most evocative models — the MC20 Cielo and the GranCabrio, priced at ₹5.31 crore and ₹3.40 crore respectively (ex-showroom, India).
Unveiled globally in 2022, the MC20 Cielo marked Maserati’s return to the convertible supercar space after a brief hiatus following the end of the previous-gen GranCabrio. Based on the critically acclaimed MC20 coupe, the Cielo retains the same cutting-edge underpinnings but brings with it a transformational experience — an electrochromic glass roof that folds away in just 12 seconds.
Powering the Cielo is Maserati’s bespoke 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 “Nettuno” engine, churning out 621 bhp and 730 Nm. Despite the 85 kg weight gain over the coupe (1,560 kg kerb weight), the Cielo still sprints from 0 to 100 kmph in a claimed 3.0 seconds — only marginally slower than the hardtop — and can exceed 320 kmph.
Interestingly, the glass roof itself measures 909 mm long and 615 mm wide, giving the cabin an airy feel even when closed. Apart from its open-air party trick, the Cielo mirrors the MC20 coupe in every aspect — design, tech, and customisation packages. It launched internationally with a starting price of ₹3.69 crore in 2023, making this Indian price tag a notable hike, albeit justifiable for its exclusivity and complexity.
If the MC20 Cielo is a visceral supercar, the GranCabrio is the epitome of luxurious cruising. Essentially the convertible sibling of the GranTurismo coupe, the GranCabrio is a 2+2 seater that blends GT comfort with notable performance credentials.
Powered by the same 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, it produces 542 bhp and 650 Nm — identical to the GranTurismo Trofeo variant. The result is a 0-100 kmph sprint time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 316 kmph. A fabric soft-top — more traditional and lighter than the MC20 Cielo’s glass unit — can be lowered or raised in just 14 seconds, even at speeds of up to 50 kmph.
Design and tech-wise, the GranCabrio remains loyal to its coupe sibling, with a richly appointed cabin, multiple personalisation options, and a balanced driving dynamic suited for long hauls and weekend getaways alike.
The coupe version of the GranTurismo arrived in India last year with a starting price of ₹2.72 crore for the Modena variant and ₹2.90 crore for the Trofeo. The GranCabrio’s ₹3.40 crore price tag reflects the added engineering and open-top appeal, placing it in the upper echelons of luxury grand tourers in India.
