Matter partners with Niron Magnetics to unveil a rare-earth-free Variable Flux Motor prototype at CES 2026.
Matter, an Indian electric mobility technology company, has partnered with Niron Magnetics, a manufacturer of high-performance rare-earth-free permanent magnets, to develop advanced electric motor platforms for two-wheelers.
The collaboration integrates Niron's Iron Nitride magnet technology and Variable Flux Motor designs with Matter's powertrain architecture.
The initiative addresses challenges associated with rare-earth elements in traditional electric vehicles, including environmental impact and supply chain volatility. By combining Matter's expertise in liquid-cooled systems, gearboxes, and vehicle intelligence with Niron's sustainable magnet solution, the partnership targets enhancements in torque, efficiency, acceleration, and range.
A prototype incorporating these technologies was demonstrated at CES 2026, built on Matter's HyperShift geared electric motorbike platform.
Prasad Telikapalli, Founder and Group Chief Technology Officer of Matter, stated that the alliance supports the company's goal of creating high-performance solutions while advancing technological self-reliance in India.
Mohal Lalbhai, Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of Matter, noted that the integration removes conventional limitations on speed, efficiency, and sustainability in propulsion systems.
Variable Flux Motors differ from standard designs by resolving trade-offs between low-speed torque and high-speed performance, offering benefits such as improved acceleration, urban controllability, highway efficiency, and thermal management, particularly relevant for diverse riding conditions.
The partnership aligns with global electrification trends and efforts to mitigate reliance on critical materials, aiming to foster a resilient EV supply chain.
