Under its new ownership, McLaren is likely to venture into the performance SUV arena. The British marque had, until now, avoided high-riding models entirely.

McLaren is set to enter the luxury SUV segment in 2028 with a five-seat, four-door model featuring a V8 hybrid powertrain, according to a report from Automotive News. The alleged SUV, codenamed P47, marks a major strategic shift for the British performance brand as it embarks on a major product offensive.

The plans for the SUV were reportedly revealed at a global dealer meeting. The all-wheel-drive P47 will not be a plug-in hybrid; instead, its electrical system will be focused on amplifying performance.

The design is described as "sculpted and muscular," with a silhouette similar to a larger Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT Coupe. Key styling elements include a split-headlight design flush with the body, a large rear spoiler, and an indented "spine" running the car's length.

The SUV launch is part of a broader plan to introduce one new model annually through 2028. In 2027, McLaren will launch a new mid-engined coupe, codenamed P34, positioned above the Artura. This model will feature an electrified V6 powertrain producing nearly 800 horsepower and a design that harks back to the iconic McLaren F1.

Additionally, the current generation of the 750S will conclude in 2027 with a limited-edition high-performance variant called the 788HS. Limited to just 200 units, it will feature a roof scoop and a tall rear wing. A successor to the 750S is slated for 2028, while the McLaren GTS will also be replaced by a new 2+2 grand tourer in 2027.

This aggressive product rollout follows the recent acquisition of McLaren by CYVN Holdings, an Abu Dhabi-based investment firm. The new strategy involves leveraging assets from other companies owned by CYVN, including Gordon Murray Technologies and Forseven, to fuel future model development.
