The latest update sees a subtle change in style and the addition of a few luxury features.
Two years since its debut and after numerous subtle improvisations, the Mercedes-Benz EQS has received its first set of extensive updates moving 2024 onwards. The additions are not just limited to the aesthetics of the flagship luxury electric sedan but also address key issues related to luxury and functionality.
For starters, the batteries are now bigger and capacity has increased from 108.4 kWh to 118 kWh. As a result, range has boosted and Mercedes-Benz claims that the 2024 EQS can travel 82 km more.
Thereby, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 450 4MATIC can now do 799 km, up from 717 km before. The top-spec Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+’s range has increased from 683 km to 822 km. Thus cementing its position as one of the luxury electric cars with the longest range.
With the increase in power, strength has also increased and the 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS can now tow up to 1700 kg load, which brings it on par with some of its SUV brethren. To give us an idea of how much a 1700 kg load is, the press release cited a horse trailer.
Special focus has been given to rear seat passenger comfort. As a part of that ethos, the second row of the Mercedes-Benz comes equipped with a new special slanted footrest. Along with that, the backrest in the rear can now be adjusted up to 38 degrees, up from the 36 degrees before. Plus, as part of the optional equipment list, customers can also equip neck and shoulder heating, and adjust the depth of the seat’s cushion.
Further enhancing its stance, Mercedes-Benz has updated the front fascia of the EQS by using a new radiator trim. With subtle chrome applications on the grille design, along with the upright star emblem on the front hood, Mercedes claims that the EQS now looks more ‘status conscious’. The rest of the car continues as it is, thus retaining its high aerodynamic design.
Mercedes has also introduced a new Automatic Lane Change function that will be available as part of the Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC with Active Steering Assist feature. Taking the help of a radar this feature detects sufficient space and lane markings to overtake a slower vehicle in a two-lane scenario. Mercedes-Benz used to already offer this feature with EQS models in the USA and Canada, it will now be rolled off to European models as well.
Despite these new updates, the basic ex-showroom price of the Mercedes-Benz EQS continues unchanged. Therefore, in India, the Mercedes-Benz EQS will continue to retail in the price range from ₹1.62 crore to ₹2.45 crore, once it officially launches here. Bookings for the electric luxury sedan will commence globally from April 25, onwards.
