Mercedes-Benz has launched the facelift of its flagship SUV, the GLS, at ₹1.32 crore (ex-showroom, India). This is the first of more than 12 launches the German manufacturer has planned for India. The GLS facelift is available in two variants – GLS 450 and GLS 450d.

The GLS facelift gets subtle updates with the biggest change being the new grille up front with four horizontal louvres and a massive three-pointed star logo. It also gets revised LED headlamps and taillamps, refreshed bumpers and a new design for the alloy wheels. The GLS facelift is available with five colour options, and three of these are new – Hightech Silver, Solonite Grey and Satellite Blue.
Not much has changed inside the cabin of the GLS. The facelifted version is available with three interior colour options with the Bahia Brown being the latest addition. The biggest change inside is on the tech front as the infotainment system runs the latest version of the MBUX. The GLS facelift also gets a new ‘off-road’ mode that uses the 360-degree camera to show a transparent view under the bonnet.
Other features of the GLS facelift include four-zone climate control, connected car tech, wireless charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, a power-operated tailgate, a Burmester-tuned sound system with Dolby Atmos, and more. Safety features include nine airbags, electronic stability control, a tyre pressure monitoring system and ADAS.
The GLS continues with the 3.0-litre diesel engine producing 325 bhp and 700 Nm with the GLS 450d variant. It now also gets a 360 bhp, 500 Nm, 3.0-litre petrol engine with the GLS 450 variant and both get a mild-hybrid system with an integrated starter generator as standard. Both engines are mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox and get the 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
With the prices of the GLS facelift ranging between ₹1.32 crore and ₹1.37 crore (ex-showroom, India), it is ₹5 lakh-₹7 lakh more expensive than its chief rival, the BMW X7 (₹1.27 crore-1.30 crore). Compared to its other rivals, the Volvo XC90 (₹1.01 crore) and Audi Q7 (₹87 lakh-94 lakh), the GLS is ₹36 lakh and ₹43 lakh more expensive than the Volvo and Audi, respectively.
