Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) will be accelerating its push into software-defined vehicles, and has partnered with Pune-based mobility ecosystem integration firm KPIT Technologies Ltd. The two companies have announced that they will be working together to develop in-vehicle software with the goal of speeding up feature deployments, boosting innovation, and reducing overall costs.
Mercedes-Benz will use KPIT’s experience as an auto industry software and system integration specialist to rearchitect its entire software stack for the next generation of vehicles. The company has also highlighted a need to offer buyers continuous updates that will keep their cars current and deliver improved features long after they have been shipped and delivered. According to a press statement issued by KPIT, its cross-domain expertise will help effect a digital transformation for its new partner.
Mercedes-Benz recently showed off its Vision V concept “grand limousine” van with an ultra-luxurious lounge-like interior, 360-degree digital entertainment features including a 65-inch screen and 42 speakers. It also showed off new drivetrain, battery, ADAS, L2 autonomous driving, steer-by-wire, and intelligent cockpit technology at the recently concluded Auto Shanghai 2025 exhibition. It has also publicly discussed efforts towards developing neuromorphic computing and establishing a global knowledge network to study the integration of vehicles and living spaces.
KPIT operates engineering centres in India as well as Europe, the USA, South America, and across Asia, employing around 13,000 people. Its partners across the automotive industry include Honda, Renault Group, BMW Group, GM, Stellantis, Volkswagen Group, Cummins, and Navistar. It develops solutions around AI, ADAS, autonomous driving, EV charging, digital cockpits, body electronics, network architecture and middleware, diagnostics, validation, cloud data management, and virtual engineering.
