The Comet finally gets a much-needed faster charging option.
MG Motor India has rejigged the variant line-up of its two EVs – the Comet and ZS EV. Along with a variant shuffle, the Comet also finally gets the much-needed option of fast charging, and it’s only a 7.4 kW AC charger.
Along with the new fast charging capability, the top-spec variant of the Comet also gets additional safety features such as an electronic parking brake, rear disc brakes, electronic stability control (ESC) and hill-hold assist. Other new features include power-foldable ORVMs, DRLs integrated into the front indicators and body-coloured ORVMs. This has increased the price of the top-spec variant by ₹20,000.
Adding the 7.4 kW AC charging capability has reduced the charging time in half. The Comet with the fast charger now takes 3.5 hours to charge from 0-100 per cent, while the 3.3 kW charger takes 7 hours to fully charge the Comet. It still gets a 17.3 kWh battery that has a claimed range of 230 km.
MG has also renamed all the variants of the Comet. The Pace variant is now called Executive, the Play variant is now called Excite and the Push variant is now called Exclusive. The fast charging capability is only available on the Excite and Exclusive variants, and is ₹36,000 dearer than the variants with standard charging capabilities.
Variants | Prices (ex-showroom, India) |
---|---|
Executive | ₹6.99 lakh |
Excite | ₹7.88 lakh |
Excite FC | ₹8.24 lakh |
Exclusive | ₹8.78 lakh |
Exclusive FC | ₹9.14 lakh |
The ZS EV only gets new variant names and there are no changes in the price or features list of the electric SUV. However, the name of the base-spec Executive variant remains unchanged. The Excite variant is now called Excite Pro, the Exclusive variant is now called Exclusive Plus, while the Exclusive Pro is now called Essence.
Along with a new name, the Excite Pro variant now gets a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, making it the only EV under ₹20 lakh to get this feature. While MG has yet to announce what other new features it gets, it continues to come with a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, six airbags, a reverse camera and more.
Old Variant Names | New Variant Names | Prices (ex-showroom, India) |
---|---|---|
Executive | Executive | ₹18.98 lakh |
Excite | Excite Pro | ₹19.98 lakh |
Exclusive | Exclusive Plus | ₹23.98 lakh |
Exclusive Pro | Essence | ₹24.98 lakh |
