The Indian electric vehicle market is quickly moving beyond just compact hatchbacks and SUVs. A growing appetite for premium, high-performance EVs has brought global players to the forefront. Among them are the MG Cyberster, the country’s first electric roadster, alongside three popular high-tech EVs: Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and the recently launched Tesla Model Y. Each has a distinct personality and offers a unique mix of driving pleasure, tech sophistication, and practicality.

Design & Road Presence

The MG Cyberster is a head-turner, India’s first all-electric convertible roadster. It sports scissor doors, an aggressive front-end, and a cab-rearward stance that screams performance. It’s designed for indulgence, not utility.

In contrast, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 channels a retro-futuristic appeal with its pixel-inspired lights and angular proportions, offering a futuristic vibe without being flamboyant.

The Kia EV6 looks more athletic, with a coupe-like roofline, wide haunches, and sharp detailing; it's the most dynamic-looking SUV in this comparison.

Meanwhile, the Tesla Model Y keeps things minimal and clean, with a smooth fastback design that prioritises aerodynamics and universal appeal over flash.

Performance & Powertrain

If raw performance is what you're after, the MG Cyberster dominates with 503 bhp and a 0–100 kmph time of just 3.2 seconds. It’s a driver’s car first, and everything else second. The Kia EV6 AWD GT-Line is no slouch either, offering 325 bhp and a planted AWD setup that does 0–100 kmph in 5.3 seconds.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5, by contrast, is tuned more for comfort and everyday use, producing 217 bhp with a rear-wheel-drive layout and a 0–100 kmph time of 7.6 seconds.

Tesla’s Model Y Long Range sits in between, with dual motors generating 335 bhp; it combines quick acceleration (5 sec to 100 kmph) with Tesla’s famous one-pedal driving feel and linear power delivery.

Range & Charging Capabilities

The Kia EV6 leads on paper with up to 708 km (ARAI-certified) from its 77.4 kWh battery (RWD variant), while the Hyundai Ioniq 5 offers up to 631 km from a slightly smaller 72.6 kWh pack.

The Cyberster, despite being performance-focused, claims about 580 km (CLTC), which is still strong for a sportscar. Tesla Model Y (imported, hence WLTP rated) claims around 533–565 km depending on configuration.

Interior, Space & Practicality

The Cyberster is a driver’s cockpit with twin screens, tight ergonomics, and a focus on sport. There’s little cargo room, and only two can ride—this is a leisure vehicle.

The Ioniq 5 impresses with spacious, lounge-style interiors, a sliding centre console, rear seats with recline, and a flat floor, making it the most comfortable for passengers.

The EV6 is more cocooned, sporty and driver-centric, yet still packs practical space. Model Y keeps it ultra-minimal, just a single horizontal screen, but the best boot space of the bunch and a practical rear seat arrangement. It's also the only one that can (optionally) seat 5 adults comfortably with generous cargo room.

Tech & Features

Tesla’s tech approach remains unrivalled in some areas. The Model Y’s interface, real-time updates, integrated navigation, and voice commands offer seamless control. The Cyberster brings flair with multiple screens, a voice assistant, and ambient lighting, but software maturity is still developing.

The Ioniq 5 and EV6 both feature dual-screen dashboards, connected tech, ADAS, V2L (vehicle-to-load), and augmented reality heads-up displays, offering a robust, user-friendly experience backed by Hyundai-Kia’s reliable tech ecosystem.

Safety & Daily Use

All four cars prioritise safety with six or more airbags, strong structural ratings, and advanced driver assistance systems. The Model Y boasts full 5-star ratings from both Euro NCAP and NHTSA, with Autopilot-based driver aids.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 have top Euro NCAP scores and a comprehensive ADAS suite, including lane keep, adaptive cruise, and blind spot monitoring.

The Cyberster, though equipped with ADAS and ESC, has yet to be crash-tested independently. It offers ample safety features but lacks the mainstream credibility of Tesla or Hyundai-Kia platforms in crash validation.

Price Wars

For sheer performance and visual appeal, the Cyberster is unmatched in its price band. The Ioniq 5 remains the most VFM with flagship features at the lowest price. The EV6 sits in the middle, offering balance and finesse. The Model Y, while expensive due to CBU import status, justifies its price with unmatched software, real-world efficiency, and global brand value.

The Bottom Line

Each of these EVs targets a different niche. The MG Cyberster is an EV for thrill-seekers who want jaw-dropping performance and design under ₹75 lakh. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a comfort-first, feature-rich family car. The Kia EV6 is an all-rounder, blending sport and practicality. And the Tesla Model Y is a connected, minimalist EV with the best software and ecosystem, albeit with import constraints.
