The company has plans to set up a battery assembling plant in Gujarat
In just another 5 years, MG Motor India is expecting the Indian market to tilt heavily towards EVs and is readying to add more vehicles to its electric portfolio. The company has said that it will achieve 65-75 per cent of its sales from the EV portfolio by 2028. MG Motor India will strengthen local manufacturing of EV components and establish a battery assembly unit in Gujarat.
The company made a bold statement when it introduced an electric vehicle as its second car in the country. We say bold because, it was a car that cost between Rs. 20-25 lakh. But still, the MG ZS EV garnered an excellent response and has been one of the strong sellers for not only the company but also in the EV space.
It was in May this year that the company finally announced the prices of all the variants of its latest EV – the Comet. The small hatch, meant for urban conditions, is currently the most affordable electric car in the country, undercutting the Tata Tiago EV and the Citroen eC3. The company says that it will launch 4-5 new cars and most of them will be EVs in the next 5 years. The company has, however, not yet clarified how many EVs it will launch.
