The car will be compact and from what we know a hatchback. Most of you might be wondering how small this car will be. Well, it will be shorter in length than a Maruti Suzuki S-Presso.
MG is all set to launch a new EV into the Indian market and it will be called the Comet. Now the inspiration of the name comes not from the celestial object in space but an iconic 1934 British airplane which participated in the England-Australia MacRobertson Air Race. Mind you though, it isn’t an inspiration for design. MG’s next EV will be a small electric car which will be based on the Wuling Air. It will be a car meant for short city travels (like home to work, occasional shopping spree etc)
The car is hatchback, well the same size as probably an entry level car in India. Most of you might be wondering how small this car will be. Well, it will be shorter in length than a Maruti Suzuki S-Presso. In fact, it is car under 3 metres in length, out of which a little more than 2000 mm will be taken up by the wheelbase. So, it will be very interesting to see, how the space inside has been utilised.
Rajeev Chaba, President and Managing Director, MG Motor India, “As we move further into the digital age, we will witness an exceedingly large number of innovations that could range from futuristic technologies to unique designs to clean mobility and many others.”
This is not MG Motor India’s first all-electric car in the country. The MG ZS EV has already been a strong seller for the company and with the new one, (if priced right) the company will be able to consolidate their share in the EV space in India. The challenge, however, stems from Tata Motors which has the Tiago.ev in the company’s line-up, and is no doubt that MG will look at it closely when it comes to pricing the Comet.
