Domestic handset maker Micromax Informatics has forayed into the renewable energy market with the introduction of its new division, "Startup Energy", the company announced on Wednesday. Micromax has signed a partnership with China’s solar equipment maker Jinchen to set up a 5GW solar module production facility.
The manufacturing of solar panels will begin in stages, incorporating automation systems and high-efficiency module production technologies, the company said.

With Startup Energy, we are extending this vision to the renewable energy sector, bringing our expertise in cutting-edge solutions to solar power. Our goal is to make clean energy more accessible, reliable, and cost-effective, ensuring that individuals and businesses alike can benefit from sustainable power solutions.
"By investing in advanced solar panel manufacturing, we aim to support India’s mission for energy self-reliance while actively contributing to a greener, more sustainable future by reducing our carbon footprint," Rajesh Agarwal, Managing Director, Micromax Informatics, said in a statement.
Startup Energy will establish a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. The company will also explore strategic R&D partnerships to develop next-generation solar solutions.
