FTC v. Microsoft trial this week provides a sneak peek into the roadmap for the future of Xbox.

Internal Microsoft documents revealed as part of the FTC v. Microsoft trial this week provide a sneak peek into the roadmap for the future of Xbox, including a complete redesign of the Xbox Series X console launching in 2024. Microsoft had not announced these plans until the confidential documents were revealed this week.

Codenamed "Brooklin", the new Xbox Series X is shown to have a rounded design and does not have a disc drive. The documents show the new console will include 2TB of storage (double the current 1TB), a USB-C front port with power delivery, and a redesigned controller.

The new controller, codenamed "Sebille", will add gyro support through an accelerometer and have a two-tone colour scheme. It is set to be announced later this year and will support direct connections to the cloud via Bluetooth 5.2 and Xbox Wireless 2. The documents also mention "precision haptic feedback", "VCA haptics" that "double as speakers", quieter buttons and thumbsticks, a rechargeable and swappable battery, and modular thumbsticks.

Internally, the new Xbox Series X will include Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and a 6nm chipset for improved efficiency. The power supply will be 15% more efficient. Microsoft is targeting the same $499 launch price.

The documents also reveal a potential Xbox Series S refresh in September 2024 with 1TB storage, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and a new controller.

With tentative launch time frames of September 2024 for the Xbox Series S and November 2024 for the Xbox Series X, it appears Microsoft is gearing up for a major Xbox refresh in just over two years.
