The 5-door version of the Mini Cooper gets the same powertrains and features but is longer than the 3-door version.
Six months after the Mini Cooper was revealed, its 5-door version has been revealed. While the design hasn’t changed much, there are some visual changes because of the extended length. It comes with the same features as well as powertrain options.
The Mini Cooper 5-door now measures 4036 mm in length, 1744 mm in width and has a height of 1464 mm. Compared to the 3-door version, the new 5-door version’s wheelbase is 77 mm longer and the overall length is 172 mm longer. The rest of the dimensions remain the same. The 5-door Mini Cooper has a boot space of 275 litres with the second row up but it can be increased to 925 litres with the seats folded down.
Cosmetically, the 5-door Mini Cooper has the same round headlamps with circular LED DRLs, a hexagonal grille with an ADAS module, pull-type door handles, thick body cladding and a ‘Union Jack’ design for the lightning elements in the taillamp. Furthermore, the design of the alloy wheels, measuring up to 18 inches, has changed compared to the 3-door version.
Inside, the new 5-door version has the same dashboard design with a round, 9.4-inch infotainment touchscreen taking centre stage. It gets a bench seat for the second row with two USB Type-C ports but no rear AC vents. The Mini also gets ADAS tech supported by 12 sensors and four cameras.
Powering the 5-door Mini Cooper are two petrol engines. The 1.5-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine produces 154 bhp and 230 Nm and the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine with 201 bhp and 300 Nm. Power output of both engines is similar to the 3-door version but the acceleration figures have changed. With the 1.5-litre engine, the 5-door manages to do the 0-100 kmph run in 8 seconds, 0.3 seconds slower than the smaller Mini. With the 2.0-litre engine, the 5-door version does it in 6.8 seconds which is 0.2 seconds slower.
Expect the 5-door version to launch in India before the end of 2025. The last recorded price of the previous-gen Mini Cooper 5-door was ₹36 lakh but expect the future model to be priced much higher.
