Montra Electric Unveils First ARAI-Certified E-Tractor in India

Montra Electric, the clean mobility division of the Murugappa Group, on Thursday forayed into north India with the unveiling of the Montra Electric E-27, the first ARAI-certified electric tractor at the ninth edition of EIMA Agrimach India 2025 in New Delhi.

The Montra E-27 is currently available at 17 dealerships across 10 states. The prices of the Montra Electric's tractor range begins at ₹10.75 lakh (ex-showroom).

"We are tied up with the major financial institutions like HDFC Bank. We have our own finance on Chola Finance, and then we have the SBI doing the financing for the farmers right with respect to subsidy. Two states have been front-runners and have declared good amount of subsidy for the farmers on e-tractors. These are Haryana and Maharashtra," Harish Prasad, CEO, Montra Electric Tractors, told ACKO Drive.

The vehicle's reduced noise and vibration levels are said to enhance operator comfort and decrease fatigue, a key consideration for India's agricultural workforce.

The tractor produces 27 HP equivalent power and 90 Nm torque via a permanent magnet synchronous motor, supporting operations including ploughing, tilling, spraying, and haulage. 

Available in both 2WD and 4WD configurations, the tractor runs on a 22.37 kWh LFP prismatic-cell battery pack that delivers approximately 4.5 hours of runtime and achieves full charge in 2.15 hours. 

The ARAI certification validates adherence to national safety and performance benchmarks.

Specifications and Advantages

The E-27 includes an 8F+2R side-shift transmission, dual-speed PTO (540 and 1,000 rpm), and a 720 kg hydraulic lifting capacity. 

According to Montra Electric, the e-tractor matches diesel tractor performance whilst cutting operating costs by up to 70 per cent, potentially generating lifetime savings approaching ₹10 lakh.
