A thoroughbred cruiser and a more traditional naked could be on the horizon
Hero MotoCorp’s and Harley-Davidson’s partnership has borne some great fruits in the form of the Mavrick 440 and the X440, both bikes receiving a handsome response from the Indian buyer. While the plan was to introduce the platform with these bikes, it was always the intention of the two to expand and offer more. And it seems that for 2024, we might have another two bikes, one from each brand, rolling out very soon.
Harley went with the roadster approach for its first product with the X440. While it is in the company’s DNA, the American brand is known for its cruisers. Hence, a more thoroughbred cruiser is likely to join the Harley ranks. We think Harley will try to keep more or less the foundations of the X440 intact, tweaking the steering geometry and ergonomics to suit the character. The styling will be more befitting the Harley-Davidsons Indians are well versed with and a Street Bob-approach could benefit the brand.
Contrastingly, Hero would play to its strengths and might opt for a 440 cc sporty commuter-ish naked motorcycle, which is likely to be called the Hurikan 440. Previous investor documents suggested that the Hurikan 440 naked was very much on the cards with the motorcycle showing off a fairly muscular body. Hero is likely to pitch it against the likes of the Triumph Speed 400 and the upcoming Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450, offering a different flavour to the masses.
Hero has quite a few two-wheeler launches slated for 2024 and while the Hurikan might be one of them, we think the launch of the Xoom 125R and Xoom 160 are likely to take place sooner. We might see some action from the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer in June with the 440 cc bike to come in during the festive period.
