That is quite a sombre response to Honda’s electric ambitions.
Honda has cumulatively recorded sales of 2,662 units with its debut electric scooter, the Activa e: and QC1. As per the SIAM data, Honda produced 1,862 electric scooters in February and increased production to 4,570 units in March. Dealer deliveries totalled 560 units in February, rising significantly to 2,102 units in March. Considering Honda is taking a measured approach with the e-scooters, the numbers not being too impressive is bound to happen. However, what will remain interesting to watch is just how well the Indian audiences respond to the e-scooters in the coming months.
The QC1 is Honda's more economical electric scooter and priced at ₹90,000, it is more affordable than competitors like the TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak. The QC1 comes with a fixed battery and is designed for urban commuting. It has a top speed of 50 kmph, and takes 9.7 seconds to dash from 0-40 kmph. With the battery fully charged, the QC1 boasts a IDC- claimed range of 80 km. This entry-level electric scooter is now available in just six cities: Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and Chandigarh.

The availability of the Activa e: is further limited as the deliveries have only commenced in Bengaluru, with Delhi and Mumbai to begin shortly. It features swappable battery technology and is positioned primarily for personal commuting. It comes in two variants: the Standard model priced at ₹1,17,000 and the RoadSync Duo model at ₹1,52,000. With both the swappable batteries fully charged it is good for an IDC-claimed range of 102 km, and can accelerate from 0-60 kmph in 7.3 seconds with a top speed of 80 kmph.
While Honda is selling the Activa e: through its existing Red Wing dealerships using a 'shop-in-shop' concept. The company has already established over 80 battery-swapping stations in Bengaluru, the first market for the Activa e: was retailed. The Japanese have also set up swappable stations in Delhi and Mumbai, however, bookings are only open in these cities.
However, with the Activa e:, Honda has offered quite an expensive proposition wherein it will cost you at least ₹28,000/year, just to run the e-scooter. To understand this, check out our review below where we break down the running cost comparison between the Activa e:, a conventional electric scooter and even the petrol-powered Honda Activa:
