The Kazakhstan GP had replaced the Indian GP earlier this year.

The MotoGP Kazakhstan GP has been officially cancelled. Initially scheduled for July, the event was postponed to September due to floods in Central Asia. Sadly for Kazakh MotoGP fans, it has been officially removed from the calendar. This news comes amidst confirmation that Dorna Sports has also included the Bharat GP for 2025 after it was cancelled for 2024 due to ‘operational constraints’.

As for the Kazakhstan GP, a second round at Misano will replace the Sokol event. This new race will be called the Emilia Romagna GP. The cancellation has been attributed to operational and logistical issues resulting from the earlier floods in the region. Despite this cancellation, the MotoGP calendar will now maintain 20 rounds despite this change.

Following the San Marino GP at Misano, the newly added Emilia Romagna GP will take place at the same circuit. The Asian phase of MotoGP will begin with the Indonesian GP from September 27th to 29th. This change creates a series of three consecutive Grand Prix: Emilia Romagna, Indonesia, and Japan, which will be challenging for the riders and their teams.

Earlier speculation about a second GP in Qatar to replace the cancelled event has not materialised. But the challenges of keeping the infrastructure up and running in spic and span condition, especially for a high calibre motorsport event like MotoGP is immense. While the Kazakhstan GP has been cancelled for 2024, we do hope it makes a comeback in next year’s racing calendar.
