The Q5 arrives with significant updates in design, technology, and performance.
Audi has unveiled the third generation of its popular Q5 SUV, continuing its legacy as a leading model in the mid-sized compact luxury SUV segment. The Q5, which has been a best-seller for Audi, particularly in the United States, arrives with significant updates in design, technology, and performance, aiming to maintain its strong market position.
The new Audi Q5 will be available in two variants at launch. The base model is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 264 bhp, while the sportier SQ5 variant features a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine delivering 357 bhp and 550 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch S Tronic transmission and come standard with Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
The new Q5 offers a choice between standard steel springs and an optional sports suspension, which comes standard on the SQ5. This suspension system includes Frequency Selective Damping (FSD), designed to enhance ride comfort by reducing damping forces on rough surfaces and increasing them on smoother roads. Audi also offers an air suspension system with adaptive dampers as an option. The Q5 also features progressive steering as standard, which adjusts the steering ratio based on speed and steering input.
Audi's latest design language is evident in the new Q5, which features a softer, more refined exterior compared to its predecessor. The vehicle’s design includes subtle creases along the bottom of the doors to minimise visual bulk and soft shoulder lines that guide the eye smoothly from wheel arch to wheel arch. The rear of the vehicle is designed to appear wide and purposeful, with full-width lighting elements that add to its visual appeal.
The Q5’s front end is marked by a new grille design that Audi describes as "sporty," flanked by single-unit headlamps that are positioned 1.6 inches higher than on the previous model. The vehicle comes standard with LED daytime running lights, while the rear features second-generation OLED taillights. The Q5 offers a unique lighting feature in the form of eight adjustable dynamic light patterns, although this function is available only when the vehicle is stationary.
Inside, the Q5 continues Audi’s tradition of high-quality, driver-focused cabins. The interior design is more angular and aggressive, paying homage to Audi’s design heritage while incorporating modern technology. The cabin features USB-C ports, an inductive phone charging pad, and a range of buttons for controlling various functions like mirrors, seats, locks, and lights.
The Q5 is built on Audi’s Premium Platform Combustion, shared with the new A5. This platform provides flexibility in design and technology, allowing the Q5 to incorporate the latest features. The Digital Stage infotainment system includes an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit display and a 14.5-inch MMI touch display, providing drivers with comprehensive control over the vehicle’s functions. Additionally, an optional 10.9-inch screen is available for front passengers.
The Q5 also includes a configurable heads-up display, which allows drivers to access various infotainment functions without taking their eyes off the road. The Dynamic Interaction Light spans the width of the cockpit, reacting to vehicle events and providing visual feedback during entry and exit.
