Citroën India has released a new teaser for its upcoming Basalt SUV, providing a closer look at its interior design and confirming several of its premium features. This reveal comes shortly after Tata Motors unveiled the exterior design of its direct competitor, the Curvv SUV.
The teaser reveals a dashboard layout that closely resembles the Citroën C3 Aircross SUV, featuring a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system and similar central AC vents. Notably, the Basalt will also include a 7-inch fully digital driver’s display and an automatic AC panel—an upgrade from the C3 Aircross, which lacks this feature.

Externally, the teaser reaffirms the Basalt's SUV-coupe design, characterised by a sloping roofline. The front fascia draws parallels with the C3 Aircross SUV and the C3 hatchback, highlighted by V-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and halogen projector headlights. The rear design showcases wraparound LED tail lights and a high-positioned boot lid, featuring the Citroënlogo and the ‘Basalt’ moniker.
The Citroën Basalt is set to include several advanced features, such as cruise control, a wireless phone charger, push-button start/stop, and keyless entry. Safety features are expected to comprise six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a rear parking camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Under the hood, the Basalt is anticipated to be powered by the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine found in the C3 Aircross and the C3 hatchback, delivering 108 bhp and up to 205 Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
The Citroën Basalt is expected to launch in August, with prices starting at approximately ₹10 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It will compete directly with the newly unveiled Tata Curvv and will also present a stylish alternative to other models in the segment, including the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota HyRyder, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and MG Astor.
