The next-generation KTM 390 Adventure will receive a host of mechanical and cosmetic updates.
The KTM 390 Adventure is among the most popular off-road motorcycles in the Indian market. However, it isn’t a perfect set of wheels and despite receiving an update it has started to show its age, especially when one experiences the ballistic performance of the new KTM 390 Duke. The Austrian brand has taken notice of the above and first images of the upcoming KTM 390 ADV undergoing testing and from the test mule we can make out that KTM is going all-out with the new adventure bike.
As we can see on the test mule, KTM designers have gone in for a completely different design as the bike features vertically stacked LED headlight and even the windscreen looks much bigger. The real difference can be made in profile as the front fairing resembles that of a Dakar bike and the rear section is very compact. Unlike the current bike, the upcoming 390 Adventure employs a single-seat and this could have been done to make the pillion seat more accessible. Similar to the current KTM 390 Duke, the ADV offering opts for a petite underbelly exhaust muffler, which might play a key role in reducing the weight of the bike.
The new 390 Adventure will feature the same LC4 engine as seen on the new 390 Duke. This means power and torque output will see a bump over the current bike. The 399 cc engine delivers 45 bhp and 39 Nm while featuring a 6-speed gearbox with slipper clutch and a quickshifter. The other big update is the new chassis which should help in improving ground clearance, making the bike perform better off-road and also improving the handling dynamics of the upcoming KTM motorcycle. Similar to the existing motorcycle, the 390 Adventure will feature adjustable suspension and in terms of features will get the new TFT instrument console with ride modes, Bluetooth connectivity and navigation.
While there were rumours that the KTM 390 Adventure will be unveiled in 2025 but given how complete the test mule looked, we think it could make its global debut in 2024 itself. The new KTM 390 ADV will come with a price premium of Rs 20,000 to 30,000 over the existing motorcycle and will compete with the likes of the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, BMW G 310 GS and the upcoming Hero XPulse 400.
