The new SUV will be sold through Maruti Suzuki’s Arena dealerships and will be its second compact SUV, after the Grand Vitara.
After the success of its Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki is betting big on the compact SUV space as it readies the launch of another model in that segment. Maruti Suzuki has been very hushed about this new model, but it will launch this compact SUV in India on September 3, 2025. Here’s what you should expect from the upcoming model.
The new compact SUV is likely to be called Escudo or Victoris, as per reports circulating on the internet. Maruti Suzuki has not yet divulged the name. Escudo is a name that Suzuki has been using globally for the Vitara, but the Victoris is something neither Maruti Suzuki has used before or Suzuki has used globally. While these may seem to be the final choices, it remains to be seen what the new car will be called.
The new car, though, has been spotted testing on multiple occasions, hinting that it will be larger than the Grand Vitara. It could borrow design cues from the Grand Vitara, but it’s highly likely that it will look quite different. It could borrow design cues from the upcoming e Vitara.
Inside, the new SUV could have a different cabin layout compared to the Grand Vitara, but the features list could be similar. As of now, there’s no confirmation if this new SUV will come with ADAS, but it could be on the cards. Other features you could expect in the new car will be a panoramic sunroof,a large infotainment touchscreen, six airbags, a 360-degree camera and more.
In terms of powertrain, it’s quite likely that the new SUV could come with a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine (the same as the Grand Vitara). There is a possibility that the 1.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrain is also offered.
The new SUV will rival the likes of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Tata Harrier, and Mahindra XUV 700.
