Swift Hybrid for India?
Recently the new generation of the Suzuki Swift was showcased at the Japan Mobility Show 2023. The model that was showcased looked almost production-ready and we expect that this same car will come to India next year as the 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift.
In terms of design on the exterior, the 2024 Swift will have a flatter nose than before. The headlight design will be changed and it will have a sharper look. Thankfully Maruti has not hopped on the trend of putting DRS above the headlights. The grille on the new Swift is rounder eliminating the edges seen on the current outgoing model. All this makes the front bumper look more sporty. It also gets fresh cuts and creases that make the car look fresh.
The silhouette of the Swift remains unchanged. The noticeable updates include new diamond-cut alloy wheels, blackened pillars, and the rear door handles that are back on the doors, unlike the previous version where they were on the C-pillars. Moving to the back you'll notice the taillights have been updated with a C-shaped brake light, clear indicators, and reverse lights. The rear bumper has also been changed, featuring a black insert and reflectors placed horizontally.
The interiors of this hatchback will now take inspiration from the Baleno and the Fronx which has an upright driver-facing infotainment system. Overall the dash is tilted towards the driver side giving it a more sporty appeal. The infotainment cluster looks simple with the twin pod instrument cluster which is analogue with a screen in the middle.
There's speculation about Suzuki's plans for the Swift. For the international market, they seem set on introducing a 1.2-litre three-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol engine, coupled exclusively with a CVT gearbox. However, when it comes to India, the Swift might take a different route, offering a petrol engine with a choice between a five-speed manual and a new CVT unit.
The current 1.2-litre K Series engine generates 89 bhp of power and 113 Nm of torque. But with the potential arrival of the new engine, the Swift could be on the verge of a power boost, possibly pushing it close to 100 bhp of power and 150 Nm of torque.
Although Maruti Suzuki India has not yet confirmed the possibility of elevating its game by including the mild-hybrid engine as an option for the upcoming Swift, it could add an interesting twist.
