Mercedes-AMG is gearing up to unveil the latest updates to its iconic G-Class lineup, with a recent teaser hinting at what's to come. Following redesigning the G-Class for the 2019 model year, Mercedes-Benz appears poised to continue the tradition of periodic updates to keep the rugged SUV fresh and competitive in the market.

The latest teaser shared on social media provides a glimpse of the production-ready version of the new G 63 from AMG. Additionally, prototypes for the new version of the regular G-Class are already undergoing testing, with expectations for a debut next year as 2025 models for the U.S. market.
Notable changes anticipated in the new G 63 include a more aerodynamically shaped front fascia, potentially featuring active shutters for improved efficiency. While the overall shape of the grille is expected to remain unchanged, a revised pattern may be introduced to enhance the vehicle's appearance.
Changes are also expected inside the cabin, with the dash being covered up in the teaser, hinting at interior updates. One key addition anticipated is the incorporation of the latest version of Mercedes' MBUX infotainment system, offering enhanced connectivity and user experience for occupants.
The new G 63 may feature a semi-active hydraulic suspension system similar to those found in other Mercedes models such as the SL convertible and GT Coupe. This advanced suspension setup, replacing conventional anti-roll bars, allows for adaptive damping force adjustments based on various data inputs, promising improved ride comfort and handling characteristics.
Under the hood, the G 63 is expected to retain its twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V-8 engine producing 569 bhp. However, rather than opting for a plug-in hybrid powertrain like some other AMG models, Mercedes-Benz is likely to introduce a mild-hybrid system to enhance efficiency and performance.
While details regarding the availability of certain options, such as the 4x4 Squared variant with portal axles, in the U.S. market remain unconfirmed, Mercedes-Benz is rumoured to be considering a shift away from V8 engines in non-AMG versions of the G-Class. This could see the introduction of inline-6 engines with mild-hybrid technology as replacements.
Mercedes-Benz has also confirmed plans to introduce a smaller, electric-powered variant of the G-Class later in the decade. This model, possibly named the EQG, aims to capitalise on the growing demand for electric vehicles while retaining the legendary off-road capabilities of the G-Class.
