The new Mini Cooper gets a choice of either a 1.5-litre engine or a 2.0-litre engine.
Nearly five months after the fourth-generation Mini Cooper Electric debuted, the British marque has revealed the internal combustion engine (ICE) version of the Mini Cooper. The hatchback comes in two variants – Cooper C and Cooper S.
The new Mini Cooper gets a choice of two petrol engines – a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder engine producing 154 bhp and 230 Nm and a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine churning out 201 bhp and 300 Nm. Both engines are mated to a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. With the smaller engine, the new Mini can do the 0-100 kmph run in 7.7 seconds, while with the larger engine, it can manage the same run in 6.6 seconds. Mini claims its new hatchback gets a suspension and damping setup ‘designed for agile handling’.
The ICE and electric versions of the Mini look very similar save for the grille, alloy wheels and door handles. While both share more-or-less the same interior design, the ICE version has a different design for the door cards with the inside door handles placed higher up than the EV. The cupholders in the ICE version are mounted parallelly to the dashboard, they are mounted perpendicular to the dashboard in the EV. The ICE version also has a vertical wireless charging pad like the new BMW X1.
In terms of features, the new Mini Cooper gets a 9.4-inch circular touchscreen infotainment that runs on Mini Operating System 9 and has an OLED display. The screen displays driver-centric information like speed and fuel consumption at the top, while the lower half has navigation, media, climate control and more. The new Mini also gets a driver assistance suite that uses 12 ultrasonic sensors and has the smallest ADAS radar sensor for any vehicle in the BMW group.
While there is no confirmation of the new Mini Cooper ICE coming to India, its electric version is expected to launch in India later this year.
