Like the Crown sedan, the SUV also only has a strong hybrid powertrain.
Along with the new ninth-gen Camry, Toyota also showcased the Crown Signia SUV. It is the second model in the brand’s portfolio of cars under the Crown badge. Like the new Camry, the Crown Signia is also offered with only a strong hybrid powertrain.
The Crown Signia actually looks very different from the Crown sedan, yet it follows Toyota’s latest design language. It has a two-part grille with the lower part being the bigger half, occupying most of the front bumper. The upper part of the grille, a slim unit, gets the LED daytime running lights on both corners. The main headlights are housed in a trapezoidal unit in the bumper.
It has a chunky design and in profile, it is a very plain affair. The Crown Signia looks like any other crossover SUV and has a small greenhouse which swoops upwards after the rear doors. At the back, the Crown Signia gets slim LED taillights that are connected by an LED light bar. It also gets a large indentation for the number plate in the tailgate.
Inside, the Crown Signia looks similar to the Crown sedan with a big central touchscreen housed above a volume/ power button and AC vents. Even the design of the AC vents is shared by the sedan and the SUV siblings, as is the design of the centre console with a stubby drive selector, two large cupholders and a deep, vertical wireless charging cubby hole.
The Signia gets a large, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment as well as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The Crown Signia also gets 8-way power-adjustable seats in the front row with heating and ventilation, a fixed panoramic sunroof, three USB-C ports, digital IRVM, a 360-degree camera, an 11-speaker system from JBL and connected car tech. For safety, it also gets the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 ADAS suite with collision warning, lane departure warning, traffic sign assist and more.
Toyota says the second row can fold flat and can open up a nearly 2-metre-long loading area. However, Toyota hasn’t given the storage capacity of the Crown Signia yet.
Under the hood, The Crown Signia gets a 2.5-litre petrol engine paired with two electric motors, producing 243 bhp (combined). Toyota claims this strong-hybrid powertrain has a fuel efficiency of around 15 kmpl, and all variants will come with an e-CVT with all-wheel drive systems with a towing capacity of more than 1,200 kg.
