The Triumph Tiger 800 also ushers in a brand new 798 cc inline-three engine.
Triumph has ridden in a brand new adventure-tourer motorcycle in the form of the Tiger Sport 800. It is powered by a brand new inline-three engine, which can be traced back to the 765 cc, inline-three engine that powers the British marque’s Street Triple range of naked bikes. However, its underpinnings are shared with the Triumph Tiger Sport 660, and the new Triumph Tiger Sport 800 is also built around the same tubular steel perimeter frame. This explains why the new bike doesn’t look absolutely new.
But let's start with the heart. Nestled inside the perimeter structure is a 798 cc inline-three engine, which Triumph claims is absolutely new but does share a few elements from its 765 cc, inline-three engine. However, with a 78 mm bigger bore, and a 55.7 mm long stroke, this inline-three powerhouse churns out 113 bhp at 10,750 rpm and 84 Nm at 8,500 rpm. And unlike the Tiger Sport 660, which gets an underbelly exhaust, the Tiger Sport 800 goes for a more functional and practical, side-mounted silencer. Beyond that, the slick 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch assist, and bidirectional quickshifter have remained the same.
The chassis features premium Showa suspension with 150mm travel and fully adjustable 41mm upside-down fork. Braking duties are handled by radial-mounted four-piston calipers up front with 310mm twin discs. For long-distance comfort, Triumph has incorporated a single-handed adjustable windscreen, built-in air deflectors, and an accessible 835 mm seat height. Further reasserting its on-road character are its 17-inch front and rear wheel combination shod with Michelin Road 5 tyres.
The new Triumph motorcycle comes equipped with modern electronics including a six-axis IMU offering cornering ABS and traction control, alongside three riding modes - Road, Rain, and Sport. Cruise control is also included as part of the standard feature list. The controls for the same can be accessed from a TFT display which supports Bluetooth connectivity, enabling turn-by-turn navigation and smartphone integration.
The new Triumph Tiger Sport 800 strategically positions itself between the Tiger Sport 660 and Tiger 900 range in the brand’s lineup. And while it has been launched in Europe at the moment, where it will compete against the likes of the Yamaha Tracer 9 and the BMW F900 XR. India launch is expected by mid-2025.
