Recent reports suggest the new Apple Pencil will not only be compatible with the iPad but also with the Apple Vision Pro.
Apple has not updated the Apple Pencil for over five years. The company introduced the Apple Pencil 2 alongside the 2018 iPad Pro. This event took place at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York, a location outside of California, which is unusual for Apple. Fans have eagerly awaited an update, especially with new iPad Pro and iPad Air models on the horizon. Recent reports suggest the new Apple Pencil will not only be compatible with the iPad but also with the Apple Vision Pro.
Experts have now understood how the Apple Pencil will work with the spatial computer. It seems users might be able to draw on a virtual surface within the Vision Pro's visionOS UI. This would transform the user's environment into a canvas that responds to pressure and tilt.
The new functionality will benefit drawing apps and CAD programs on the Apple Vision Pro. It will also support creative apps like Pixelmator, a Photoshop alternative.
Apple plans to release a software update to enable these features. The company is expected to launch the first beta version of VisionOS 1.2 for developers as early as next week. We might learn more then, especially if details emerge in the software's code.
The new iPads might get a bold redesign since they need an update. The iPad Pro models will likely have the new M3 chipset. This chipset is already in the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. It supports ray-traced graphics.
