Nissan India has expanded its subcompact SUV portfolio by introducing a CNG-powered version of the Magnite at a starting price of ₹6.89 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Priced at a premium of ₹75,000 over the standard petrol variants it is based upon, the new CNG model marks Nissan's foray into the CNG segment within the subcompact SUV space — a move seen as both strategic and inevitable, given market trends and partner developments.
Nissan Magnite CNG Prices:
Variants | Prices (ex-showroom, India) | CNG Price |
---|---|---|
Visia | ₹6.14 lakh | ₹6.89 lakh |
Visia+ | ₹6.64 lakh | ₹7.39 lakh |
Acenta | ₹7.29 lakh | ₹8.04 lakh |
N-Connecta | ₹7.97 lakh | ₹8.72 lakh |
Tekna | ₹8.92 lakh | ₹9.67 lakh |
Tekna+ | ₹9.27 lakh | ₹10.02 lakh |
This update follows Renault’s earlier rollout of CNG variants across the Kiger, Kwid, and Triber models. As with the Kiger, which shares its underpinnings and drivetrain with the Magnite, the new Magnite CNG will be based on the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine and will be offered exclusively with a 5-speed manual transmission. Notably, the more powerful 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol variant remains excluded from this CNG upgrade.
Fuel economy figures for the Magnite CNG are expected to fall between 18 and 22 km per kg, based on internal estimates and comparable benchmarks. However, Nissan has yet to release official numbers for power, torque, and certified mileage in CNG mode. Performance compromises are likely, given the characteristics of CNG fuel and the absence of the turbo option.
In a notable approach, the Magnite’s CNG kit will be fitted at the dealership level as an official accessory, rather than being factory-installed. The retrofit systems will be supplied by Motozen. This dealer-fitted model may help Nissan control costs and maintain flexibility in deployment across various trim levels, though it raises questions about uniformity in installation quality and potential consumer perceptions regarding vehicle integrity.
The company has clarified that the standard manufacturer warranty — three years or 1,00,000 km — will continue to apply. Additionally, the CNG kit itself will carry a separate one-year dealership warranty. Nissan’s dealer network will also manage updates to the vehicle’s Registration Certificate (RC), ensuring compliance with local transport authority norms for fuel-type changes.
