Following approval by the Boards of Directors of Renault Group and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd, Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance today announced new initiatives to take their partnership to the next level.
A three-dimension program to maximize value creation for all Alliance stakeholders will include high-value-creation operational projects in Latin America, India and Europe, enhanced strategic agility with new initiatives that partners can join, a rebalanced Renault Group-Nissan cross-shareholding and reinforced Alliance governance.
For India and export, Renault Group and Nissan would collaborate on several new vehicle projects including new SUVs. While there is no clarity right now on which segments these SUVs will target, but both Nissan and Renault, would want to get back into the Compact SUV space with the replacements of the Kicks and Duster respectively. Given how well the Duster was received in the country, the next generation model will likely be one of the SUVs that will make it to India.
Nissan’s SUV portfolio worldwide is extensive and we know that the X-Trail is making its way back into the country, but what more lies ahead in the roadmap for SUVs, is something that has not yet been defined by the company. We wait to see what the company plans to bring to India.
