Carl Pei talked about the Phone (2a) while hinting it will be priced lower than the original Nothing Phone (1).
Nothing, the consumer tech startup led by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, has announced plans to launch its next smartphone, the Nothing Phone (2a), on March 5 at 5 PM IST.
In a teaser video shared on social media, Pei talked about the Phone (2a) while hinting it will be priced lower than the original Nothing Phone (1) which launched in 2022, starting at Rs 32,999. Pei hinted that the Phone (2a) would try to "shake up the market" with its polycarbonate design resembling glass.
While the device was blurred out, sketches created by Nothing's lead industrial designer Chris Weightman show a redesigned camera module compared to the Phone (2). Weightman confirmed the Phone (2a) will still feature a transparent design and the Glyph interface on the back, though this has been reworked compared to the Phone (2).
As per the rumour mill, the Phone (2a) could include a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chipset, 50MP+50MP rear cameras, 32MP front camera, 4,290mAh battery with 45W charging, and NothingOS 2.5 based on Android 14. It is expected to come in black and white colours with 8GB+128GB and 12GB+256GB storage variants.
Nothing will sell the Phone (2a) on Flipkart in India. Consumers can sign up on the Nothing website for a chance to attend the March 5 launch event in Delhi or win the new Phone.
The Phone (2a) launch confirms Nothing's commitment to regularly releasing new budget-friendly Android devices. Much remains unknown about the full specs and pricing, but we expect to hear more about the Phone 2a during the MWC 2024 showcase.
