The Nothing Phone (2a), Nothing’s relatively affordable mid-range phone, is now on sale in India. Those who want to buy it can head to Flipkart, Croma, Vijay Sales, and other authorised sellers. The device is available in Black and White, and is priced starting at Rs. 23,999 for the base variant which has 8GB or RAM and 128GB of storage. You can bump the storage up to 256GB with the same 8GB or RAM for Rs. 25,999, or with 12GB of RAM for Rs. 27,999. Buyers can take advantage of a few offers including Rs. 2,000 off and no-cost monthly instalments for HDFC card holders, and a Rs. 2,000 exchange bonus on the launch day.
More interestingly, anyone who buys a Nothing Phone (2a) before March 19 will receive a free Perplexity AI Pro subscription for “up to” one year. Perplexity is billed as a contextual AI tool that can help people find answers to complex questions in a conversational style by compiling information from a set of verified sources. Perplexity Pro lets you ask up to 300 questions per day and adds more powerful AI models as well as image recognition and generation.
A one-year Perplexity Pro subscription is priced at $200 (approximately Rs. 15,547) so this could be a considerable value add for Nothing Phone (2a) buyers. To claim the offer, buyers will have to register their IMEI and order numbers on Nothing’s website, five days after receiving their purchase, but before April 30. They will then receive a discount code by email. However, the company’s wording of “up to one year” is not clear, and the terms and conditions only state: “Customers who purchase a Nothing Phone (2a) from Retail Channels between 05/03/2024 and 19/03/2024 will receive an Offer for redemption of a Perplexity Pro subscription for up to one (1) year (either 6 or 12-months).”
The Nothing Phone (2a) is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro SoC. It has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 1084 x 2412 resolution and 30-120Hz refresh rate range. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and the device also has an IP54 rating for dust and water protection. It has a 5000mAh battery and supports up to 45W charging. There’s a 50-megapixel primary rear camera with OIS, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 32-megapixel front camera.
Nothing has used its trademark design style with a translucent body and “Glyph” lighting system which has over 15 functions including delivering alerts, letting you light photos better, and visualising things like a countdown timer. The phone runs NothingOS 2.5, based on Android 14, with custom-designed widgets and animations. Buyers will get three years of Android updates and four years of security patches.
