The MoveOS 5 will bring better range, new driving modes and a few safety and security features.
The high level of software content in Electric Vehicles (EV) also allows them to fix glitches, or improve features with just an Over the Air (OTA) update. And that’s exactly what Ola Electric is doing for its S1 range of scooters, and the Roadster motorcycle, with the rollout of the MoveOS 5 software. The MoveOS 5 operating system claims to improve the two-wheelers’ riding range, with a reworked motor control unit (MCU), and also offer new riding modes as well as a few safety and security updates.
The latest MoveOS 5 will cover over 9 lakh Ola vehicles, and will take 20-30 minutes to install the update. Customers will have to keep their vehicles stationary while the OS gets updated. The MoveOS update will cover the motor controller, vehicle control unit, battery management system and instrument cluster.
The MoveOS 5 improves the range with a reworked MCU with better optimisation that also delivers a more responsive and refined riding experience, claims Ola Electric. It also gets advanced battery management features, which are said to improve battery health and performance. But that’s not all, these features are also said to improve regen.
The new operating system also gets three new riding modes – DIY mode, Road-Trip mode and Easy Park mode. With the first, the riders get the opportunity to customise a riding mode as per their choice. DIY mode allows one to configure top speed, power, throttle sensitivity and regen braking. The Road-Trip mode allows multiple Ola scooters and motorcycles to be connected to each other on a journey and send out SOS alerts in case of emergencies or to regroup. This mode also allows riders to plan a multi-stop trip and all of the riders can be tracked using Ola Maps. The Easy Park mode allows riders to easily manoeuvre through tight spaces. The throttle can be twisted clockwise to go reverse and anticlockwise to go forward, but the speed is limited to 4 kmph.
MoveOS 5 has location sharing features which the riders can access either through the touchscreens or through the app. The location can be shared with up to five recipients for a custom duration and can also be halted at any time. SOS Alerts can also be shared with pre-selected emergency contacts, and alerts can also be triggered in case of safety-related situations by sending the rider’s live location. Finally, it also has a Find My Vehicle feature to track your two-wheeler.
The touchscreen will now also display live cricket scores and live weather updates based on the vehicle’s current location. Through the touchscreen, the rider will also be able to receive phone calls and message notifications, and these can also be turned off. Even WhatsApp message notifications can be tailored between all, favourites and none.
