With Alfa Romeo’s marketing deal with Sauber coming to an end by 2023 end, the unveiling of the C43 was always going to be its last dance with F1, at least for the time being. And this has been done so in a grand way with almost a Ferrari like livery in a blood red and black which also underlines the iconic colours of Alfa Romeo whose sister brand was Ferrari till it was spun off out FCA.

This is the car that will be driven by former Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou who made his F1 debut last year. This will be Alfa Romeo’s fifth and last year in F1 with Audi having already acquired a 25 per cent stake in the Sauber operation and having installed Andreas Seidl as CEO.

“The project started a couple of weeks after last year’s roll-out where we started drafting the strategy for 2023. We identified areas where we need to unleash, and concentrated mainly on the rear part of the car where we wanted to be brave enough to do the next step which opened the door to other solutions we couldn’t implement last year,” said Jan Monchaux.

“There is also a lot of things we changed on the car and also internally in our processes. It’s clearly one of the major focuses for us this last winter,” he added.

The team also this year features a new principal as its former CEO and team boss Fred Vassuer was snagged away by Ferrari. Seidl being the new CEO, he has hired Alessandro Alunni Bravi as the team representative, but he hasn’t been given the designation of the team principal.

Alfa Romeo will be hoping to build upon the P7 it managed last year and perhaps dream about overtaking Aston Martin in the pecking order. That may be a tall order considering the talent and resources at the disposal of the British team now owned by Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll who this year also has the services of Fernando Alonso.
