As OnePlus revels in the critical acclaim garnered by the OnePlus Open, all eyes are now on its forthcoming flagship: the OnePlus 12. This eagerly-awaited device will succeed the OnePlus 11 and could hit the market sooner than anticipated. The new offering is set to be powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, a chipset that other OEMs like Xiaomi are also rushing to incorporate into their new products.
Digital renderings of the OnePlus 12 have already surfaced online, alongside benchmarks on Antutu, where it clocked an impressive score of 2,110,808. Leaks suggest that the CPU scored 495,780 points, while the GPU amassed 914,151 points. Additionally, the device scored 362,402 and 338,475 points on memory and UX tests respectively. OnePlus phones traditionally excel in these benchmarking applications, and the OnePlus 12 seems set to continue this trend.
The OnePlus 12 aims to rectify the shortcomings of its predecessor. It is expected to feature a DisplayMate A+ rated screen with a 2K resolution and an extraordinary 26,00 nits of brightness, eclipsing the screen luminosity of all 2023 flagships, including the iPhone 15 series and Pixel 8.
Moreover, the device will utilise Oriental Screen technology, incorporating Oppo's Display P1 chip and boasting 18 DisplayMate A+ records. The phone will run on Android 14 with Oxygen OS 14 layered on top. Battery capacity is pegged at a massive 5,400mAh, coupled with 100-watt fast charging and the re-introduction of 50-watt wireless charging. While the design may remain largely consistent with the OnePlus 11—which was well-received—the camera set-up promises to be revolutionary.
The OnePlus 12 is slated to feature a new Sony IMX966 sensor with a 50-megapixel resolution, an ultra-wide lens boasting a 48-megapixel resolution, and a 64-megapixel OmniVision OV64B sensor that will facilitate 3x optical zoom—a specification potentially matching that of the OnePlus Open.
When the OnePlus 11 was launched in February earlier this year, it carved a niche for itself by undercutting the prices of top-tier flagship models while forgoing certain less-utilised features like wireless charging and water resistance. If these features are reinstated in the OnePlus 12, it will almost certainly command a higher price tag. However, as smartphones are generally becoming more expensive, the OnePlus 12 may still succeed in undercutting its competition.
